Audio Sidechain

Normally an effect plugin processes a single (stereo or mono) audio signal. But by using a side-chain input it is possible to apply processing to a signal based on the level of another signal. In plug-in devices that support sidechaining, you can access the sidechain parameters on the left side of the device, so sending audio to a plugin in Ableton is straightforward.

Some of our plugins also accept MIDI input, for information about routing MIDI please look here.

Steps

  1. Open the plugin window for the Devious Machines product you would like to route to and ensure that it is in a mode that receives audio. This is different for each product so please refer to the manual if you are unsure.

  2. In the FX rack, you can select the sidechain on the plugin using the dropdown highlighted below. This will only be available if the plugin accepts a sidechain input.

  3. Choose the signal you would like to pass to the plugin from the drop down. Then the signal information will be received by the plugin.
