MIDI
Many of our plugins can be controlled by MIDI. For example Duck can trigger its envelope when a MIDI note is received, Infiltrator supports MIDI controllers, envelope triggering and toggling its effects on and off using a MIDI keyboard, and Pitch Monster will turn your voice into chords while you play a MIDI keyboard. Read the plugin's manual for how to enable and use the MIDI input.
But no matter which of our plugins you use the the procedure in your DAW for routing a MIDI signal to the plugin is the same.
Some of our plugins also accept audio input, for information about routing audio please look here.
Note: One MIDI track in Ableton can be routed to one effect track. This means you cannot route the same MIDI to multiple effects at once without creating additional MIDI tracks
Steps
This example uses Duck but the same procedure apples for other effect plugins:
- Ensure that the plugin is set to receive MIDI.
- Create a new MIDI track and put some MIDI events on it by double clicking in your empty MIDI track and adding some notes.
- Set the output for the MIDI track (labelled MIDI To) to your audio or instrument track containing Duck (see picture).
- In the second box that appears under MIDI To select 1-Duck.
- You can also do steps 3 and 4 on tracks in the arrangement view. Go to the bottom dropdown menu of your track settings at the left hand side.
- MIDI will now be being sent from your new MIDI track to the plugin.
This picture shows where the drop down is for routing your MIDI tracks output.
If this drop down isn't available there's a tiny button labelled IO on the right of the mixer you'll need to click on.
