Audio Sidechain

Normally an effect plugin processes a single (stereo or mono) audio signal. But by using a side-chain input it is possible to apply processing to a signal based on the level of another signal.

Some of our plugins also accept MIDI input, for information about routing MIDI please look here.

Steps

  1. Open the plugin window for the Devious Machines product you would like to route to and ensure that it is in a mode that receives audio. This is different for each product so please refer to the manual if you are unsure.

  2. Enable sidechain mode above the plugin UI.

  3. Go to the mixer and route the audio of your track you want to sidechain (e.g. your kick). On that track click the [+] icon next to the 'Sends'.

  4. Expand the 'Sidechains' menu.

  5. Find the track containing the Devious Machines plugin you are routing to and the insert that matches the number that the plugin is in the effects chain (in the example below Duck is track 1, insert 1).
