Audio Sidechain

Normally an effect plugin processes a single (stereo or mono) audio signal. But by using a side-chain input it is possible to apply processing to a signal based on the level of another signal.

Some of our plugins also accept MIDI input, for information about routing MIDI please look here.

Steps

  1. Open the plugin window for the Devious Machines product you would like to route to and ensure that it is in a mode that receives audio. This is different for each product so please refer to the manual if you are unsure.

  2. Create a separate audio/MIDI track that you would like to route to the plugin.

  3. Route the new track to a bus in the sends potion of channel (found in the mixer window).
  4. This will open a new window with a fader for the bus, turn up the fader to ensure that audio is being routed to the bus. If you don't see it, click on the bus icon.
  5. Return to your track with the Devious Machines plugin and open the UI. In the top left hand corner click the key input drop down and select the bus input you just set up.
  6. The audio bus should now be triggering in the Devious Machines plugin.
